Real Wedding ~ Allison and Hunter

We love the design of this fresh, breezy wedding at Carillon Beach, FL photographed by the lovely ladies of VUE Photography. Allison and Hunter's event was created in a palette of all white with accents of green and neutrals and a few striking details in brilliant fuchsia - most notably the bridesmaids' bold cocktail dresses paired with perfectly matching bouquets of ranunculus created by Events by Nouveau Flowers. Allison wore a feminine lace gown with a white blossom tucked behind her ear, a glittering pair of teardrop earrings and vivid fuchsia peep-toe pumps. Hunter and his groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos with boutonnieres made from a single white blossom. The ceremony was held at The Meeting House chapel, an all white venue with gleaming hardwood floors. Guests were seated in chairs wrapped in white envelope-tied linens as Allison carried a full bouquet of white ranunculus down the aisle. She and Hunter spoke their vows beneath a dramatic swag of green and white hydrangea topped by sprays of delicate twigs.

The reception was held in a clear tent draped with billowing white fabric sheers on the sides, leaving the ceiling with open views of the night sky. Crystal and brass chandeliers were hung along the center of the tent and over the wedding cake created by Confections on the Coast, featuring pin dot piping and a topper of white sugar flowers. Guest tables were dressed in a mixture of pale gray blue textured or pintucked linens and set with deep brown chivari chairs. Centerpieces were created using gathered white flowers and greenery in a variety of clear glass vessels. An eclectic mix of antique furniture pieces formed a quaint lounge area for guests on the lawn accented by warm candlelight. Real Wedding ~ Toni and Matt

Toni and Matt were married in a stylish Atlanta affair photographed by Altmix Photography and designed by the always amazing Ashley Baber of Ashley Baber Weddings, whose work is featured in the current Summer 2010 issue of Weddings Unveiled. The event was designed in a sophisticated palette of black, white and bold yellow with clean modern detailing. Toni wore one of our favorite gowns by Monique Lhuillier with a sweetheart bodice and a dramatic floral textured A-line skirt that looks like masses of blossoms. She added a pair of hoop earrings and carried a bouquet of canary yellow calla lilies wrapped in organza with tiny frames pinned to it containing photos of her family members. Her bridesmaids carried bouquets of white French tulips and wore black cocktail dresses with statement necklaces of knotted pearls and chains from Stella & Dot. Matt and his groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos with black bowties and yellow calla lily boutonnieres.

The ceremony was held at the historic Neo-Gothic Peachtree Christian Church where two flower girls led the way down the aisle carrying pomanders of yellow spider mums. The reception was held at King Plow, opening with a spectacular display of black manzanita branches hung with black and white paper flowers and notes on yellow ribbons in lieu of a traditional guest book. Lounge areas were created around the room using whtie pipe and drape and panels of black and white patterned fabric. White couches and chairs with clean modern lines were set with black accent pillows and arranged around groupings of black lacquer cubes. Fish bowl vessels were used for lounge accent florals created with a base layer of black river rocks and a single yellow calla lily curled around the inside of the bowl for a splash of color. Guest tables were draped in white linens with contrasting black and white patterned runners and a mixture of centerpieces ranging from low white ceramic vases of tumbling lemon yellow tulips to tall glass cylinders filled with a base of river rocks and submerged long-stemmed yellow callas. A candy display featured a variety of yellow and white sweets and at the end of the evening, guests cheered Toni and Matt with a sparkler exit before they drove off in a classic Rolls-Royce. E Session ~ Jori and Josh

Jori and Josh's cool North Carolina engagement session was sent to us by our good friend Caroline Ghetes of Caroline Ghetes Photography. From pretty sun-kissed images at the park to industrial images in the city, Caroline created two sets of images for this fun-loving couple. Each series has a different look, but both convey the same easy-going laid-back vibe. Seriously, how cute is Jori's fedora and Josh's Get Up Kids band tee? Weddings Unveiled: Tell us a little bit about Blue Moon Events.

Calder Clark: Blue Moon Events is a boutique event planning and design firm based in Charleston, SC. We travel cross-country producing weddings with our signature “edited eclectic” aesthetic and are most often tapped to introduce our love of vintage pieces and traditional-with-a-twist vibe into our events. Our focus is on full service consulting, styling and interiors for a select series of clients with whom we build lifelong relationships.

WU: How did you become an event designer? When and how did you begin Blue Moon Events?

CC: I got my feet wet at Design Cuisine, a fabulous catering firm in Washington, DC. After just a few weeks putting together high-profile parties for some of Washington’s finest, I was hooked. Following years in DC, I missed the South and relocated to work in special events at the Charleston Place. In 2005, I was married . . . and my husband suggested I ditch the “golden handcuffs” to become my own boss. In early 2006 Blue Moon was born and I’ve never looked back.

WU: Tell us about how you work with engaged couples, whether as a team or individually.

CC: Our focus is on building a relationship and securing the trust I need from our couples so that they give me abundant creative license. Once we have built those bridges, the opportunities to design lovely, inspired weddings are endless. We are essentially freed up to hone our craft on behalf of the couples who collaborate with us, which is simply thrilling. I enjoy both the logistics and the design and have an incredible team to back me up from both angles of the planning process. Our goal is to draw out of the couple who they are, what makes them tick, where they’ve been and where they want to go. Then we process that and turn that knowledge into wedding day details that speak to the couple and to their guests.

WU: Describe your wedding style.

CC: My wedding style is intrinsically polished but soft, Southern but current, tasteful but clever and always (always) timeless.

WU: What inspires you?

CC: I think style is ingrained, so the source of it is always interesting. For example, I am most at home in an antique mall or flea market, picking for treasures like the Depression era pink glass plates and champagne coupes I recently snagged for a seated dinner. I am frequently found with my nose in Elle Décor or Veranda, snipping pictures of curtains for inspiration on our next series of tent pole covers, valances and ceilings. I am most inspired by interior designers, wedding and lifestyle photographers and by our world history of entertaining.

WU: How do you keep your ideas fresh?

CC: For me, it’s really an old-meets-new thing. I keep my ideas fresh by looking through foodie magazines and blogs, rifling through back issues of interiors magazines (like Domino), renting old movies and scouring the web for art installations and store environments that inspire.

WU: What was your favorite wedding and why?

CC: Oh I couldn’t possibly! So many have fallen into the realm of magical for me that I don’t know how to pick. Emotionally, my favorite(s) are where our couples have let us do the legwork and they’ve put their time and energy into preparing for marriage and a life together - because that’s what really matters. Geographically, I have to give props to my home state of Tennessee. We recently designed a wedding at Blackberry Farm, which absolutely took our breath away for its natural beauty and impossible charm.

WU: What makes Blue Moon Events different from other wedding and event designers?

CC: Transparency and approach set us apart. The wedding industry is full of mystique and markups, thus we really pride ourselves on offering emotional, contextual, financial, and conceptual lucidity in the planning process. We are down-home girls with city slicker knowledge, which is a killer combination. We get the job done, but we may just add a “yes ma’am” and a hand-written thank-you (in cursive!)

WU: What would be your ideal wedding assignment or dream wedding to design?

CC: It’s always fun for us to get out of our proverbial shell, and I have a small obsession with San Francisco. I’d love to do a wedding weekend series for a couple in California, where the art world, wine country, landscape and ocean vistas collide to create an endless backdrop for entertaining.

WU: Tell us three things you can't live without.

CC: My faith, my family and Diet Coke.

WU: What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?

CC: Don’t try to be all things to all people.

WU: What is the best advice you can give to an engaged couple?

CC: Slooooow down and drink it in. The engagement should be an incredible memory, not a blur- because the wedding night is certainly going to be!

Real {Destination} Wedding ~ Izabella and Alex

From the groom's cool purple bowtie to the bumblebee honey dipper placecards, not to mention some of the most brilliant food styling we've ever seen, we can't get enough of this rustic farm wedding in upstate New York photographed by rock star photographer Kella MacPhee. Izabella and Alex were married at the beautiful Blue Hill at Stone Barns, a working farm whose award-winning restaurant features a menu created using all locally grown ingredients. The property's "Stone Barns" provided a picturesque backdrop, giving the event an English countryside feel and while the two said "I do", sheep grazed in nearby pastures. The property's herding dog joined in for pictures in the vast greenhouses where the industrial structure and rows of fresh produce helped create a series of spectacular images of Izabella and Alex.

Izabella wore a pretty strapless gown with a cascading ruffle on one side and a large blossom at the waist. She added another large white blossom to her hair and wore a pair of ruffled heels by Badgley Mischka. Alex dressed in a tailored gray suit with a violet bowtie and suspenders, while his groomsman wore a suit in lighter gray. Izabella's bridesmaid wore a cool strapless party dress in a gray damask pattern with a wide silvery-gray band at the hem and carried a bouquet of pale green hydrangea, white roses and deep green leaves. The ceremony was held outside the rustic barn where natural wood chairs were set on either side of an aisle strewn with hay and accented by bunches of vibrant yellow sunflowers. Izabella danced her way down the aisle carrying a sunny bouquet of yellow roses, craspedia, eucalyptus and white freesia wrapped in raffia. After the ceremony, Izabella and Alex explored Blue Hill with their photographer while guests enjoyed cocktail hour with a selection of hors d'oeuvres artfully served from wooden blocks. The reception continued indoors where the tables were covered in white linens and set with centerpieces of vibrant sunflowers, daisies and wildflowers. Dinner service began with a salad served on a wooden plank and continued through multiple courses. Menu cards were tied with green raffia, while table numbers were made of hand drawn farm animals and insects on paper with a laser-cut eyelet border.
